Why?- To prevent over activation.
- To allow for later activations.
- To prevent unwanted side reactions.
- Elimination of agonist (KD, KM)
- Removal of receptor
- Modification of receptor to inactivate it
Methods:
- Receptor Inactivation: signal to uncouple receptor
- Receptor Internalizaiton: taken inside the cell into an endosome
- Receptor Down Regulation: digestion by lysosome
