PKA

Signal Transduction - beta-Adrenergic Receptor,G Protein, Adenylate cyclase

Transferase activated by cyclic AMP and functions in sugar metabolism

Transferases,cAMP

Protein Kinase A (PKA)

Function/Purpose:

Fundamentals:

Mechanism:

Adenylate Cyclase (AC)
  • Binding of cAMP to regulatory chains releases the catalytic chains
  • Activated PKA then phosphorylates Serine and Threonine residues on in many targets to alter their activity
PKA Mechanism
  • Phosphorylates Phosphorylase Kinase

Components:

  • Two subunits
    • Regulatory chains (R) subunit
    • Catalytic chains (C) subunit
  • Four cAMP receptors
