1. Hypotonic - water flows out – swelling 
• Inner – [water] LOW [ion] HIGH Outer – [water] HIGH [ion] LOW 
2. Hypertonic - water flows in – lysis
• Inner – [water] HIGH, [ion] LOW Outer – [water] LOW [ion] HIGH
3. Isotonic – [water] = [ion]
