Glandular Epithelial Tissue

Epithelial Tissue

Glandular Epithelia

Types:

  • Exocrine glands: into lumen by duct
  • Endocrine glands: into blood

Types by Structure:

  • Unicellular = Simple
    • Tubular
    • Branched tubular
    • Coiled tubular
    • Acinar
    • Branched acinar
  • Multicellular = Compound
    • Tubular
    • Acinar
    • Tubuloacinar

Modes of Secretion:

a trinity of secretion glands
  • Merocrine glands
  • Apocrine glands
  • Holocrine glands

Types of Secretion:

  • Serous glands - secrete watery solution that contains enzymes
  • Mucous glands - secrete mucins that hydrate to form mucus
  • Mixed exocrine glands - more than one type of gland cell and different exocrine serections
