- Inital numbering of the 6C ring
- 1 position is the nitrogen pointing at the 6 o'clock position
- Cytosine there are Ns at the 1, and 3 position
- Carboxyl at the 2nd position
- Uracil there are Ns at the 1, and 3 position
- Carboxyl at the 2nd and 4th position
- Thymine there are Ns at the 1, and 3 position
- Carbonyl at the 2nd and 4th position
- Methyl at the 5th position
