Fundamentals:

• mainly white matter

Function/Purpose:

• F1 - important for the level of consciousness and for sleep
• F2 - subconscious somatic and visceral motor centers, posture
• SF - Houses the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th cranial nerves
  • 5th Trigeminal
  • 6th Abducens
  • 7th Facial
  • 8th Acoustic
• SF1 - connects the cerebellum to the brain stem
  • Relay of cerebellum to the thalmus
  • Relay btwn the medula oblong and cerebral peduncles - bundle of nerves found in the anterior portion of the midbrain that carries impulses to and from the cerebrum
