Cinnamon

Structure

Cinnamaldehyde Chemical Structure
  • Phenyl ring attached to 3C aldehyde w/ a 2-alkene-3

Taken and Augmented From Inquiries and Ideas Initial Post

  • Cinnamon and observed hydrophobic properties w/ water and tea
    • INC temp (3minutes high power microwave (emerson) in water - ceramic cup) = floating, oil spills, dark tea
    • DEC temp 68-72F = precipitates down like a salt/micelle, light tea
      • It is as if the cinnamon takes in the flavinoids from the tea both nonpolar
      • Tea alone produces an oil spill substances that floats on the surface of the cup
        • Difference in ingestion? - highly unlikely, as the internal temp of the body will eventually bring it to a constant temp
      • Uses - Wikipedia - so crap there is already a known interaction of antimicrobial and anticancer
        • Article1
        • What is a Micheal acceptor?
        • [1]
        • Anyways, why not other nonpolar compounds that are NATURAL? cmon scientists!! you've gotta be kidding me. it makes sense.
          • Secondly, why has there been no applications from this data? - no one is looking into this?
    • What is the chemical mechanism behind this proposed observed data of antimicrobial and anticancer.
    • The biofilm looking interaction of cinnamon w/ tea and heat created a slimey specled film - what the hell is going on chemically?
      • Microscope - bacteria?
      • Mass spectroscopy
      • IR
      • NMR
  • Cinnamon as a Pesticide - funny i just watched a boxer nicknamed Cinnamon, coincidence: IDK
    • Opens the idea of dilute pesticides - hopefully natural first - as a source of cancer drugs
      • Opens the idea of incorporating dilute or augmented pesticides into antibiotics as potential R groups
    • The key idea is looking at what makes them so toxic - byproducts, cellular disruption (sig trans, inhibition and etc), R and S

Michael Addition:

  • Wikipedia
    • Makes you wonder if its the aldehyde that it donates or the phenyl group
      • What if it does both?
        • Aldehydes are reactive? so it may work L-chat and even a small amount is used up so quickly that it funnels some of the prodcuts towards an aldehyde pathway
        • Phenyl substituted may allow it to progress through the plasma membrane?

Log of 3/17/11-3/24/11

Summary
  • Initial feeling of sore throat
  • So have been feeling under the weather - aches, chills, elevated temp (unconfirmed fever), weakness: Thursday and Friday.
  • Peak symptoms so took motrin PM during the second and third days just to make sure the expected fever wouldn't worsen: Sunday and Monday nights.
  • Started taking tea with cinnamon Monday night
    • Slight night sweats monday night - apartment temp 72 deg C
  • Felt releif from aches, slight chills so wore long sleeve shirt even when temps were in 80s: Tuesday
    • No sweating
    • Initial coughing of yellow green sputum and wheezing when forced exhalation - signs that there is a turnaround (past experience)
  • Increased ingestion of tea w/ cinnamon powder as part of diet 3-4 cups as well as increased water ingestion: Wednesday
    • Forced sputum has lightened form yellow green to pale green/white
  • Seems that cinnamon is doing good things - feeling of a significant difference compared from a week ago
Diet
  • Diet throughout this event was limited to 1-2X a day rice and 6-8 hotdogs and quarter cup of "brocoli normandy" mixed vegtables (cucumber, carrots, brocoli) per day
    • One multivitamin supplementation a day
  • Sleep was variable from 4-8 hours a day
  • Beleive there was a significant change after supplementing diet with tea and cinnamon

Personal Notes:

  • If I develop cancer in the throat/esophagus/digestive system well this is the one source in a change of my diet
