Glycolysis - Gluconeogenesis


Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate + NAD <-(Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase)-> 1,3,bisphosphoglycerate + NADH + H

Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH)

General:

  • Aldehyde is oxidized to COOH
  • COOH is phosphorylated as NAD is reduced
  • This sets up the molecule to generate ATP
    • Unfavorable formation of a mixedanhydride - phosphorylated carboxylic acid
