Alpha Beta Sugar Designation

Designation for the neighboring carbon atoms of a molecule

Carbohydrates

  • in respect to the pointing up C6 of the sugar, the C1 pointing down/trans from the C6 will be ALPHA
  • in respect to the pointing up C6 of the sugar, the C1 pointing up/cis from the C6 will be BETA
