Creating cell walls of bacteria
Cell Wall Synthesis
Mechanism:
Fundamentals:
- Intracellular pressure in cells is enormus
- Cells walls are bolstered by Peptidoglycan to stabilize the cell
- Three Stages:
- Synthesis of Precursors
- Synthesis of Linear Peptidoglycal Strands
- Crosslinking
Synthesis of Precursors:
- NAG-Uridine Diphosphate -(Phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) and Enzyme)-> NAM-UDP
- Isomerism of NAG-UPD to NAM-UDP w/ help of PEP and enzyme
- NAM-UDP -(ATP and Enzymes)-> NAM-UDP-(AA)-AELAA
- Creation of the Park Nucleotide
- AA sequence attached to NAM-UDP: L-ala-D-glu-L-lys-D-ala-D-ala
- Creation of the Park Nucleotide
Prevention Through Cycloserine
Prevention Through Vancomycin
- (AA)-NAM-UDP --> (AA)-NAM-DP-C55Terp
- Lipid I creation: exchanging Uridine for C55Terp - Membrane Bound Carrier
- (AA)-NAM-DP-C55Terp --> NAG-(AA)-NAM-DP-C55Terp
- Lipid II creation: attaching NAG from the Lipid I
- Transported out of the membrane
- Creates the core strands of the peptidoglycan
